Ghana police shot dead two suspected armed robbers during an anti-robbery operation on the Atebubu highway in the Bono East Region.
According to a July 30, 2025 statement from the Ghana Police Service, officers on patrol interrupted an ongoing attack against commuters.
The suspects opened fire upon spotting the police, prompting a retaliatory exchange that fatally wounded two assailants.
Both were pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital. Remaining gang members fled into surrounding bushes, triggering an active manhunt.
At the scene, investigators recovered a short gun loaded with two live cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a machete.
Authorities assured the public of “intensive efforts” to apprehend the fugitives and ensure highway safety.
