President John Dramani Mahama has praised the efforts of the Buz Stop Boys, describing their voluntary work in promoting sanitation as an inspiring example of community service.
The President made the remarks on Saturday, September 6, 2025, during the re-launch of National Sanitation Day in Madina. He said the government recognizes the group’s dedication to keeping towns and cities clean and will continue to support their initiatives.
As part of the recognition, the President, on behalf of government, donated logistics including 200 wheelbarrows, 300 shovels, 300 brooms, 300 hand gloves, 280 standing brushes, 20 short brushes, and 300 plastic buckets to boost their clean-up activities.
Mahama recalled how he first came across the Buz Stop Boys on social media in 2024 when they made a public appeal for support. He responded by providing a tricycle to assist them in transporting their tools and collected waste.
“We want to honour these selfless, community-spirited young people who, for years, have used their own resources, energy, and strength to keep our cities clean,” the President said.

Founder of the group, Heneba Kwadwo Sarfo, expressed appreciation to the President for the gesture and reaffirmed their commitment to championing environmental cleanliness and awareness.
The government further announced that starting October 2025, the first Saturday of every month will be observed nationwide as National Sanitation Day, with all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) taking part.
The sanitation initiative, which was first introduced in 2014 during Mahama’s initial term, is being revived as part of broader efforts to improve environmental hygiene across the country.
