Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot and killed on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, during a public event at Utah Valley University.
The 31-year-old, best known as the co-founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, had been addressing students when the attack occurred.
Videos circulating on social media show Kirk seated under a white tent bearing the slogans “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.” He was speaking into a handheld microphone when a single gunshot rang out. Kirk immediately reached toward his neck as blood poured from the wound, sending the crowd into panic. Students could be heard screaming as they scattered for safety.
Trump confirmed Kirk’s death on his Truth Social platform, describing him as a cherished figure within the conservative movement. “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

The White House swiftly responded by lowering flags to half-staff. Trump also issued a proclamation directing all federal buildings, embassies, consular offices, and U.S. government facilities abroad to fly flags at half-staff until sunset on September 14, 2025.
Authorities reported that Kirk had only just begun his remarks when the gunfire erupted. The FBI and other agencies are investigating, though officials have not announced any arrests in connection with the shooting.
Kirk rose to prominence as the founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organization with a strong presence on U.S. campuses. A vocal supporter of Trump, he became a leading figure in efforts to galvanize young voters around conservative causes.
His death has prompted an outpouring of grief and renewed concern over political violence in America.
