Ridge Hospital nurse sues Ralph Williams

According to a Writ of Summons filed at the High Court in Accra on August 20, 2025, and sighted by YEN.com.gh on August 22, 2025, Rejoice is demanding GHS 5 million in damages for battery and an additional GHS 2 million for defamation.

The suit alleges that Williams physically attacked her, leaving her with a dislocated shoulder and hand injuries that have hindered her ability to perform her duties as a nurse.

Beyond the alleged assault, the nurse claimed Williams defamed her by publicly dismissing her injuries as fabricated. In one widely circulated comment, he is quoted as saying:

“Liar, wo se wo nsam abu. Duabɔ bebam. You say you have suffered an injured hand and a dislocated shoulder. This is cooked up to cover the nonsense going on at the hospital.”

Her legal team, led by Charles Delali Blagogee of Blagogee, Blacksword & Co., argued that these remarks have tarnished her reputation, subjected her to ridicule, and undermined her credibility as a health professional.

Bortei is seeking:

  • A public apology and retraction of the statements with equal prominence,
  • A perpetual injunction to bar Williams from making further defamatory remarks,
  • A 50-meter restraining order,
  • Legal costs and other reliefs deemed fit by the court.

Williams has been directed to enter an appearance within eight days of service or risk a default judgment.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has given a one-week ultimatum to a committee investigating recent assaults on nurses and health professionals at Ridge Hospital to submit its findings.
