Joseph Abeekaabe, an assembly member, shared details of the incident with YEN.com.gh.
According to Abeekaabe, there was one survivor in the attack who was on a motorbike with Anaba as a pillion rider.
During the attack, they attempted to flee, leaving their locked motorcycle behind.
While running in different directions to escape, the survivor was unaware that what he thought were warning shots killed his companion.
Later on August q, the Zaare Tindana, while inspecting his farm, discovered the Anba’s body and alerted the community, which was able to identify him.
Concern over increasing insecurity in Upper East
Abeekaabe expressed concern over the increasing frequency of such violent incidents.
He said this was the fourth or fifth occurrence of armed robbery in the area.
“What happened this early morning between 2 AM and 3 AM is alarming. It’s not the first incident; it’s the fourth or fifth time people have been killed. Sometimes the robbers themselves are killed.”
He noted the absence of proper street lighting in Bolgatanga, Nyariga, and the Bongo Nyariga area as a problem.
This has contributed to heightened fear in the area.
Abeekaabe appealed to the regional police commander to establish a police barrier in the community to help reduce the rising number of robberies.
Additionally, he urged Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Roland Atanga Ayoo and Bongo District Chief Executive Joseph Abaa Akaseke to collaborate on improving street lighting and overall security in the area.
Currently, there are no streetlights from Zaare to Nyariga, and the route from Bolgatanga Technical University to Zorko Ayoone is similarly unlit, facilitating criminal activity.
ASP David Fianko Okyere, the Upper East Regional police public relations officer, said police would provide updates to the media once the investigation concludes.
Preliminary findings at the scene revealed two bullet casings near the deceased.
The body was subsequently taken to the Bolgatanga Hospital mortuary, while another victim was taken by police for interrogation.
