Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Sam George, has called for a review of the maximum age limit for enlistment into the country’s military.

In a social media post, he argued that the current age restrictions prevent capable and patriotic citizens from serving their nation.

“I honestly believe it is time for our beloved nation to re-examine the maximum age for enlistment into our military services,” he wrote, suggesting that the upper limit be extended to 35 years. According to him, many Ghanaians in their 30s remain physically fit and mentally sound enough to contribute effectively to national defense.

Currently, the Ghana Navy’s recruitment criteria allow non-tradesmen up to 25 years and tradesmen up to 27 years to apply. Sam George believes widening this range would not only open doors for more dedicated individuals but also align Ghana with global standards where similar adjustments have been made.
