Following weeks of intense negotiations and regulatory pressure, the government has struck a deal with MultiChoice Africa that takes effect October 1, giving Ghanaian DStv subscribers access to upgraded packages at no extra cost
At a press briefing on Monday, September 29, 2025, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, revealed that MultiChoice had agreed to what he described as an “unprecedented increased value offer” tailored exclusively for Ghana.
“MultiChoice Africa has committed to an unprecedented increase in value offer only in Ghana, which will result in Ghanaian DStv subscribers getting more services for less,” the Minister stated. “Depending on the DStv package or bouquet you use, subscribers will get between 33% to 50% more value,” he added.
Under the new arrangement, customers on the Paddy bouquet will now be upgraded to Access, those on Access will be moved up to Family, while Family bouquet subscribers will be upgraded to Compact. Compact customers will now access Compact Plus, and Compact Plus subscribers will be moved to Premium. To add more excitement, existing Premium subscribers will be entered into a draw for a fully paid trip to Dubai.
The new package upgrades will be in place for the next three months, after which the stakeholder committee overseeing DStv pricing in Ghana will review the arrangement.

The announcement follows the work of a committee set up by the National Communications Authority (NCA) earlier this month. The committee, established on September 8, 2025, was tasked with reviewing DStv’s subscription structure, ensuring fair pricing, and addressing concerns about affordability and service delivery.
The negotiations between government and MultiChoice had been marked by tension, with Minister George previously threatening regulatory action if the company failed to adjust its pricing. MultiChoice had pushed back, citing operational costs and market realities.
With this new concession, the standoff appears to be easing, setting the stage for a more cooperative relationship between the government and MultiChoice — and delivering immediate benefits to subscribers across the country.
