The Scout and Guide Fellowship of Ghana (SGF-Gh) has joined the nation in mourning the victims of Wednesday’s Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of eight people, including two Ministers of State.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by its National President, Andrew Botchwey, the Fellowship conveyed its “deepest sorrow and heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, the Armed Forces, and all institutions affected by what it described as an immense national tragedy.
The incident occurred in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region when a military Z-9 helicopter, travelling from Accra to Obuasi, crashed, killing everyone on board.
Those who perished in the accident included the Minister for Defence, Hon. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Also on the flight were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a government technical advisor; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
Describing the incident as a “solemn reminder of the selfless commitment of those who serve our country,” SGF-Gh said the loss was not only a severe blow to governance and national security but also a wound to the spirit of civic responsibility and public service.
The Fellowship expressed its unwavering support for ongoing investigations into the cause of the crash and called for unity as the country mourns.
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded, “and may their legacies continue to inspire leadership rooted in service, sacrifice, and nation-building.”
