Chuter, a Nigerian entrepreneur, founded Uoma Beauty in 2019 and later Uoma by Sharon C in 2021. Her brands quickly gained recognition for championing inclusivity in the beauty industry, particularly through products like the Say What!? Foundation, which launched in 51 shades and won Allure’s Best of Beauty award. Beyond her products, Chuter sparked global conversations on representation through her Pull Up For Change initiative, which pushed companies to disclose diversity data. Even after stepping down as CEO in 2023, her influence continued to shape the industry, with Uoma’s name—meaning “beautiful” in Igbo—reflecting her heritage and vision.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the beauty world. Industry leaders and creatives remembered her as a fearless advocate and a force for equity. “Thank you for your championship fight for diversity, equity, and to be valued as Black brand founders,” makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks wrote. As tributes pour in, Chuter’s legacy of courage, inclusivity, and empowerment remains etched into the beauty industry she transformed.
