Madam Grace Fu, the Singapore Minister of Trade Relations has advocated for the strengthening of Africa-Southeast Asia ties through people-to-people linkages.
She underscored the need for stakeholders not just to see Africa and Southeast Asia as separate markets, but as complementary engines of growth and development.
Madam Fu made the call at the Eighth Africa-Singapore Business Forum in Singapore City on the theme – “Bridging Capabilities, Charting Sustainable Growth”.
The Minister said platforms such as the Singapore Cooperation Programme had helped foster knowledge and people-to-people exchanges between regions.
She stated that from the inception of the Business Forum, and Enterprise Singapore had welcomed over 14,000 African officials from 54 countries.
Again, just last year, officials from 11 African countries were welcomed for the Capacity Building Programme in Trade Negotiations, where negotiators from Africa and Singapore shared valuable insights from their experiences with trade negotiations, she said.
Madam Fu noted that these exchanges showed some proven invaluable in building cultural understanding and friendships between officials that attended the programmes.
She said Enterprise Singapore was currently facilitating direct business connections through regular business missions, workshops, and conferences.
The Africa Singapore Business Forum is the premier platform for business exchange and fostering trade between Africa and Asia.
It is being organised by Enterprise Singapore, a Singapore company that works with business chambers and associations in Singapore to organise regular business missions to Africa.
