- Eight Ghanaian men died on August 6, 2025, in a helicopter crash on their way to a government function
- The government set up a support fund to provide for the children of the deceased in all spheres of life in the absence of the fathers
- Dr Valerie Sawyer, the fund manager, updated the public on the donations received so far and how others can donate if they want to
The Children’s Support Fund, which was created by the government to provide long-term welfare for the children of the victims of the August 6 helicopter crash, has so far raised GH₵ 7,292,135 and US$20,000.
This comes after new donations were made by individuals, businesses and groups between 12 and 24 September 2025.

In its latest update, the Fund listed contributions from institutions and individuals including Risk Management Ltd., Federated Commodities, Willbeck Consult, Sida Global Logistics & Engineering Ltd., the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as private donors such as Michael Kpakpo Allotey, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, and Dr. Li & Chen Guo Wei.
Dr Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, said they were grateful to all donors.
She added that all the donations will go directly to support the education, healthcare and general upkeep of the children who lost their fathers in the helicopter crash.
Dr Valerie Sawyerr further reminded the public that they are still receiving donations and will be grateful for every contribution towards such a great cause.
She added that donations can be made via Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited (Stanbic Heights Branch) through dedicated accounts in both Ghana cedis and US dollars, or by cheque, bank draft, and mobile money.
After the fatal incident, corporate bodies, state institutions, and individuals continue to extend financial support to secure the future of the victims’ children.

The August 6 helicopter crash saw eight people lose their lives. The eight who died were on their way to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Co-operative Mining and Skills Development Programme (COMSDEP), an initiative to address illegal mining, when their aircraft went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
