Media personality and former Telecel Ghana Music Awards PRO, George Quaye, has clarified that his recent call for a special non-competitive category at the awards scheme was not directed solely at dancehall star Shatta Wale.
The clarification follows mixed public reactions to comments he made during a meeting held when Shatta Wale and his management team visited Charterhouse after the successful ShattaFest 2025 concert at Independence Square. During the visit, Quaye suggested that artistes with significant influence and long-standing contributions should be recognised differently to maintain fairness within the competitive categories.
In an interview on Hitz FM, George Quaye explained that his comments were taken out of context. “I think everybody’s uproar is because it came off the back of Shatta Wale’s visit to Charterhouse. If you listen very well, I did mention Shatta Wale and other artistes like him that call was not for Shatta Wale alone,” he said.
