Kazi Mamunur Rashid, Secretary General of the Jatiyo Party, remarked that despite the supreme sacrifices and fierce resistance of students and citizens during the July uprising – an event that claimed hundreds of lives and left many wounded – the victory achieved with the fall of the then-government on August 5, 2024, failed to resonate with the aspirations of the people. Instead, the triumph of 2024 has ushered in a new era of fascism, characterized by betrayal against the very people that fought for change.

He made these remarks in a statement sent to the media on August 4, 2025.

In his statement, Kazi Mamun observed that the interim government, which assumed control following August 5, 2024, has squandered valuable time under the pretext of reforms and has fostered division among the people by engaging in selective dialogues with a handful of political parties.

Consequently, the July Charter and the deliberations of the Consensus Commission now face serious doubt and criticism. To consolidate its grip on power, this government has orchestrated the creation of the so-called “King’s Party”, which now appears to dictate the nation’s key decisions.

The Secretary General further emphasized that to truly honor the spirit and legacy of the July 2024 uprising, it is essential to form a non-partisan, impartial election-time government capable of organizing free, fair, and transparent elections. Only through the formation of a democratic government, he believes, can the people truly benefit from the sacrifices and achievements of the July movement.
