Renowned Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Martha Ankomah, has urged stakeholders in the film industry to unite and support one another to drive growth.

Speaking at the National Film Dialogue organized by the National Film Authority on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the thespian stressed the need for collaboration among actors, producers, directors, and other industry players. She cautioned that without unity, the industry will continue to hold dialogue after dialogue and meeting after meeting without seeing any real progress.

According to her, one effective way to build unity is by leveraging social media to promote each other’s work. She emphasized that while traditional media remains important, the collective influence of filmmakers on social media can significantly boost the visibility of local movies.

“If there is a way they can unite us because I can see there is a lot of division in our industry. If someone is working on a project, we all can come together and post it and push it up there, we wouldn’t even need the television and radio stations—though they are equally important. But we are all on social media, and some of us have a lot of following, so it will go a long way,” she said.

Martha further cited the Nigerian film industry as an example, noting that their culture of unity and mutual support has contributed greatly to its growth and international recognition. She encouraged her colleagues to adopt the same approach by attending premieres, sharing each other’s work, and rallying behind projects.

“I see a movie premiering this Friday and another next Saturday. If there is a way we can all push and support these and other projects, it will help grow our industry,” she added.
