Twelve Black Stars players took part in their first training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday evening ahead of this week’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad and next month’s clash with Mali.

The group comprised 10 outfield players and two goalkeepers. Senior members present included captain Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, Elisha Owusu, and Gideon Mensah.

The others were Benjamin Asare, Joseph Anang, Jerry Afriyie, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Jonas Adjetey, Ibrahim Sulemana, and Ibrahim Osman.

The session began with individual stretches before the physical trainer led group exercises. The squad later split into two groups for short passing drills.

Mensah did not take part, remaining in the dugout throughout, raising questions over a possible fitness concern.

GFA President Kurt Okraku, Black Stars management committee chairman Dr. Randy Abbey, and his deputy Stephen Appiah were among the officials who watched the session.

Twelve more players are expected to arrive before Tuesday’s second training session in Accra, after which the squad will travel to Chad for Thursday’s qualifier.

The Black Stars currently top Group I with 15 points ahead of the Chad game on September 4 before hosting Mali in Accra four days later.
