Ghana’s Upper East Region documented 25 pregnancies in girls aged 10-14 between January and May 2025, according to official health data presented at a regional coordination meeting.

Health Information Officer Charity Tanni disclosed the figures during a review of gender-based violence services, revealing 2,436 total teenage pregnancies in the period—including 2,411 cases among 15-19-year-olds.

District-level analysis showed Upper East recorded the highest incidence for the 10-14 cohort. Among older teenagers, the region reported 2,411 pregnancies, followed by Pusiga (275) and Bongo (208). The data emerged during an assessment of the Essential Service Package (ESP), a national framework coordinating support for gender-based violence survivors.

Ghana’s broader adolescent health challenges contextualize the statistics, with national records indicating 76 births per 1,000 occur among mothers aged 15-19. The meeting aimed to identify service gaps and strengthen collaboration among providers. Tanni emphasized the data supports efforts to enhance response systems across the region.
