Around National Volunteer Day (NVDay) – September 21, 2025, GhanaThink mobilizes young Ghanaians to drive community development across the country. Established in 2013, NVDay aligns with Founder’s Day to honor Ghana’s legacy by inviting citizens to give back through hands-on service and civic engagement.
Since its inception, National Volunteer Day—coordinated by GhanaThink’s Ghana Volunteer Program (GVP)—has aimed to unify individual, group and organizational acts of service under one national effort. They plan activities ranging from blood drives and tree-planting to mentoring sessions and health screenings. These are publicized through GhanaThink (led by GVP). People in the GhanaThink network, etc then volunteer for these activities while the organizers are supported with logistics and funding where available
Over the past decade+, 1000s of volunteers have donated their time and skills, generating tens of thousands of community benefits in education, health, and the environment. From orphanage visits to coding tutorials and career fairs, NVDay has become the cornerstone for youth-led social impact in Ghana.
On average, 80 community events unfold nationwide each NVDay, spanning more than 10 regions and engaging volunteers and beneficiaries in equal measure. Initiatives include clean-up campaigns under the #CleanAirGhana banner, free tutoring clinics, women’s empowerment workshops, and neonatal unit upgrades—anchoring youth energy in practical solutions. “There’s nothing quite like the feeling of putting smiles on people’s faces through simple acts of kindness. I’m eager to be part of something bigger than myself and make a positive impact in my community,” says Hilda Adika, a longtime NVDay volunteer and currently part of the GVP team.
For NVDay 2025, Seyram Ahiabor (Head of Online for GhanaThink) added: “Every #NVDay experience leaves me with a renewed sense of fulfillment, seeing individuals from all walks of life come together to synergize, serve, and create lasting change, one activity at a time”. I look forward to mobilizing more volunteers, expanding our reach to new communities, and amplifying the collective spirit of service that has always defined #NVDay. It’s my hope that we inspire even more people to take action, making this year’s celebration the most impactful yet.
