Ghana’s Volta River Authority has publicly rejected claims that a helicopter involved in an emergency landing in Nkawkaw belongs to the state power generator.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the VRA clarified it neither owns nor operates any aviation assets, dismissing the reports as “false.”
“Checks confirm the helicopter is registered to Volta River Aviation Limited, a separate entity licensed by the Petroleum Commission,” said David Adomako Mensah, VRA’s Corporate Affairs Director. The Authority reiterated its sole mandate is providing affordable electricity through hydro, thermal, and renewable sources.
VRA urged media outlets to verify such claims with its communications team before publication and called on the public to disregard the misinformation. Founded in 1961, the Authority remains Ghana’s primary power generator, focusing on energy security without aviation ventures.
