Ghana’s Black Starlets finished second at the just-ended WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations following their defeat to Cote d’Ivoire in the final.

The Black Starlets lost on penalties against the host country in the final on Friday night, missing out on the coveted trophy after the shootouts finished 4-3.

The two teams, who had already booked their slots at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, came into the final hoping to finish the competition on a high.

Having beaten Ghana in the group stage, the Ivorians were the favourites heading into the game.

However, they were unable to unsettle Prosper Ogum’s side like they did in their earlier meeting.

Ghana had chances to go ahead in the game, but Ogum’s side looked very jittery in front of goal, failing to take any of their chances.

At the end of 90 minutes, there was nothing to separate the two teams, with the referee opting to decide the winner through a penalty shoot-out.

While the two teams gave a good account of themselves during that series of events, it was Cote d’Ivoire who came up top as they finished as 4-3 winners, clinching the gold medal and the coveted trophy.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria beat Burkina Faso to clinch the bronze medal at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
