Police Ladies’ hopes of making the last four of the ongoing WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers was rekindled following their victory over Sam Nelly on Wednesday evening.

The Ghanaian champions sealed a 3-1 victory at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium to move to the second position in Group B.

Yussif Basigi’s side counted on goals from Grace Animah, Sarah Nyarko and Deborah Afriyie to seal the all important victory for the Benin’s side.

Animah opened the scoring in the 14 minute from the penalty spot after the opposition player was adjudged to have handled the poor with hands in the box.

The left-footed midfielder made no mistake from the spot to give Police Ladies the lead.

The lead was doubled minutes later after Sarah Nyarko capitalised on a great cross from Laura Juul Hansen to tap home done.

Police Ladies could have had more goals under their belt before the recess but the forward lines were unable to make the most of their opportunities.

Police Ladies eventually found a third in the game after the break through captain on the day, Deborah Afriyie, who capitalised on  a rebound after Ruth Appiah’s long range effort.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Sam Nelly grabbed a goal back in an attempt to spark a late comeback.

However, Police Ladies had it all under control as they held their nerves to finish the game 3-1.

The win means the Ghanaian side pick up a first win in the competition, recovering from their defeat to Bayelsa Queens.

Police Ladies are next in action on August 30 against ASKO of Togo.
