The World Health Organization confirms acute malnutrition rates have risen sharply across Gaza, with 63 of 74 documented malnutrition fatalities occurring in July 2025.

WHO data indicates 24 children under five were among the deceased, most pronounced upon arrival at overwhelmed medical facilities.

Nutrition Cluster reports reveal nearly 20% of Gaza City’s under-five children suffer acute malnutrition – a threefold increase since June. Khan Younis and Middle Area rates doubled in under one month. Over 5,000 children received malnutrition treatment in July’s first half, with 18% diagnosed with life-threatening severe acute malnutrition.

Only four specialized treatment centers remain operational, all exceeding capacity with critical supply shortages anticipated by mid-August. Health systems face collapse amid exhausted staff, sanitation failures, and disease proliferation. Over 40% of screened pregnant and breastfeeding women show severe malnutrition.

WHO urgently calls for unimpeded nutritious food deliveries and medical supplies. The agency reiterates demands for civilian protection, healthcare access, detainee release, and immediate ceasefire.
