Ghanaian Afro folk singer Wiyaala has joined forces with Slovenian fusion quartet The Yaga Yagas to

release Segerege, a bold ten-track album that bridges the ancestral pulse of northern Ghana with the

 experimental spirit of Europe.

Recorded live between Studio Metro in Ljubljana and Wiyaala’s hometown of Funsi, Ghana,

Segerege (translated as “The Elephant’s Ears Are on Fire”) is a journey into the

storytelling traditions of the Sissala, Waale, and Dagaare peoples first referenced in

her 2014 track Siiko, which drew inspiration from Wiyaala’s childhood memories of storytelling

and “jassi” nights (drumming and dancing) under the moonlight before electricity and the

digital age. The album reflects Wiyaala’s core vision: to preserve the past and ignite the future.

“You are lost if you don’t know where you have come from,” says Wiyaala.

Segerege unfolds as a celebration of African youth, identity, and courage,

calling out to young Africans: “We are ready to face the wilderness, we will confront the

unknown like an elephant charging across the savannah with its ears on fire.” It challenges

stereotypes and affirms a generation determined to shape its own future.

Strengthened by their 2024 visit to Ghana and performances in Funsi and Accra, The Yaga Yagas

Miha Petric, Jošt Lampret, Nejc Škofic, and Žiga Kožar — bring their signature Afro-Euro fusion to the

collaboration. The album was produced and mixed by Janez Križaj, captured with analogue warmth, and

visually brought to life by Slovenian artist Prof. Milan Erin, MSc.

The first single, “Scorpion,” will be released on 21 November 2025, followed by the full

album on 5 December 2025. Together, Wiyaala and The Yaga Yagas invite listeners into a

shared space where tradition meets experimentation, and where the stories of the past

speak clearly to the present. Segerege is more than a collaboration; it’s a reminder that

music remains one of the most powerful ways to listen, understand, and connect across

worlds.
