An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay has delivered judgment on the defamation case between Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson and media personality Mona Gucci.

Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay delivered the judgement on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

The court ordered Mona Gucci to retract and apologise on the same platform on which she made the defamatory statements.

She also ordered Mona Gucci to pay a total of GH₵340,000. The breakdown of the damages she is to pay is GH₵250,000 for general damages, GH₵50,000 for exemplary damages and GH₵40,000 for Yvonne Nelson’s legal costs.

In 2021, Yvonne Nelson sued Mona Gucci for GH₵500,000 for calling her a slay queen on Neat FM.

On May 26, 2020, Mona Gucci said:

⁠“Yvonne doesn’t show off, but she is a slay, because you know the slay queen: it entails a lot. We have both showing off and some contacts and people, who we know, that, the things that you do and the lifestyle you exhibit, someone is paying for you behind the scenes.”

Mrs. Victoria Barth represented Yvonne Nelson. Mona Gucci’s lawyer was Samuel Osei Sarpong. Yvonne Nelson filed the suit in 2021.
