Ghanaian football icon Dan Owusu has openly backed Mohammed Kudus after the midfielder’s headline-making transfer from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur.

Owusu, one of Ghanaian football’s most respected figures, hailed Mohammed Kudus’ move to Tottenham Hotspur as both bold and intelligent, praising his decision to remain in a top European league rather than pursue lucrative offers in less competitive regions.
Speaking exclusively to Gariba Raubil of YEN.com.gh, Dan Owusu said Kudus’ switch to Spurs was more than just a transfer—it was a clear statement of intent.
“Kudus has made an excellent choice. He didn’t follow the money. Many Saudi clubs reportedly offered him huge sums, but he chose to stay in the English Premier League, the most competitive league in the world. That tells you everything about his ambition.”
According to TalkSport, Tottenham are also eyeing Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman for Thomas Frank’s squad, following the acquisition of Kudus, who had been courted by top Saudi clubs with highly lucrative contracts.
Despite the offers, the former Ajax star opted to continue his development in England. For Owusu—himself a three-time consecutive Ghana Premier League Golden Boot winner—this choice reflects a maturity and hunger for growth that sets Kudus apart from many of his contemporaries.

Mohammed Kudus at West Ham
Mohammed Kudus’ spell at West Ham United was a story of highs and lows. Arriving from Ajax in 2023, he wasted no time making an impact.
In his debut season (2023/24), the Ghanaian lit up the Premier League, racking up 18 goals and 10 assists in all competitions, according to Transfermarkt. His electric dribbling, ability to score from range, and sharp link-up play in tight areas quickly marked him out as one of the league’s brightest stars.
But the following year told a different tale. The 2024/25 campaign yielded just 5 goals and 4 assists—a stark drop from his explosive first season.
Speculation swirled over the cause: fatigue, tactical shifts, even rumoured dressing-room unrest. However, former Ghana international Dan Owusu sees it differently.
“These things happen—every player has peaks and dips,” he said. “The important thing is how you respond. Kudus has done that by embracing a new challenge and stepping onto a bigger stage.”
Kudus’s stats at Tottenham
The Ghanaian international has recorded one assist in 5 pre-season games since joining Tottenham as he is yet to score.
While he has featured in friendly matches against Bayern Munich, Newcastle United, Arsenal, Luton, and Reading, Mohammed Kudus would fancdy his debut Tottenham goal when Spurs face Paris Saint-Germain on August 13.
The fixture is the 2025 UEFA Super Cup that see the Europa League champions and Champions League holders do battle ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
